The 2020 fall soccer season was far from normal, but TkO Premier’s 2004 Girls Blue team found a way to continue one of its traditions.

In preparation of the holiday season, the girls met at The Fountains at Bronson Place, a retirement community in Kalamazoo, to help bring in the Christmas spirit.

“The girls always look forward to these types of activities,” coach Todd Well said. “It speaks volumes to their character that they are always trying to find ways to give back.”

Giving back has become a staple of each season for the 2004 team. In prior years, the girls have baked cookies and flown kites with the residen ts of the senior living community.

This year, girls from all around the Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids areas gathered to assist with the Christmas decorations. Over a couple hours on the weekend, the girls wrapped bushes and trees with lights and bows at various buildings on the campus.

Although it was a bit perplexing and amusing watching them work together to organize hanging the lights, the decorations turned out well and it was a positive experience all around.

“Even during a hectic year with a pandemic, they wanted to get together to help the community, ” Wells said. “They are a great team, but even better people.”
